Mesut Ozil, Mehmet Topal and the Latest Arsenal Transfer Rumors
By Josh Sippie
Mehmet Topal
One of the first realistic Arsenal transfer rumors to emerge this summer is the supposed 5 million pound bid that Arsenal have submitted for Mehmet Topal. The Metro reports that Fenerbahce have received a 5 million pound bid from an unnamed team, with Arsenal appearing the most likely.
Arsenal are in need of cover and competition for Francis Coquelin but to break the bank on someone like William Carvalho makes very little sense.

Mehmet Topal is 29 years old, he would only cost around 5 million, and he has ample qualities to spot Coquelin a rest day or two when the competitions start piling up.
Karim Benzema
The big news of the week was that Arsene Wenger spoke on the phone to Benzema, as the Mirror reports. The claim is backed up by several other sources as well. While it may seem promising, it is being reported that Benzema declined a move, but this is likely hearsay.
Making a phone call directly to one of your transfer targets is a positive sign of intent, so we will have to see if anything comes of it.
Arturo Vidal
The Arturo Vidal saga took a turn for the worse when the rumored cost of the Chilean rose to 32 million pounds. The Express is reporting that Juventus is willing to let Vidal go, but at this inflated price. The initial price had ranged from 15 to 25 million, which is a feasibly good price to pay, but for 32 million, Arsenal ought to dig elsewhere.
Charles Aranguiz
This rumor emerged earlier in the season and I was a huge proponent of it then. I still am. Aside from riding the Chilean momentum wave, this move makes so much sense from a depth perspective. The 26-year old is still relatively young and would only fetch a price in the single digits.
The Mirror reports that Marseille have made a bid, but Aranguiz is holding out for a Premier League move.

The benefits of Aranguiz are numerous. He is cheap, young (enough), not a world-class player who is going to be clamoring for first-team caps and he is good enough and versatile enough to play various midfield positions.
Alexandre Lacazette
Apparently Lacazette has yet to request a transfer from Lyon, but is considering it, according to the Mirror. After reports indicated that the French striker would go for as little as 21 million pounds, the drama has surprisingly slowed.
Even more noteworthy is that the Telegraph indicates that Arsenal have lifted their bid for added striker depth. So much for that.
Mesut Ozil
After coming into stunning form following his injury, Mesut Ozil is obviously going to be the target of many a wanting eye. Juventus, who are preparing to lose Arturo Vidal, have stepped up interest in midfielders across the globe, with a 28.8 million pound bid for Mesut Ozil being one such option.
The Independent has indicated the move may be in the works, but Arsenal parting with their star No. 10 does not seem like a realistic scenario. As such, this rumor will likely not pick up steam.
