Arsenal Summer Profile: The Defense

The Injured Back: Mathieu Debuchy (RB)
Mathieu Debuchy is a great right back, and if you saw the play that lead to his second injury of the season you will agree with me that he will go after every ball. He is hard working and speedy down the right, and although he doesn’t have the best instincts he is very intelligent and generally doesn’t lose position.

Some will say that Debuchy’s injury last year was a blessing in disguise as it allowed Hector Bellerin to shine. But the two are very different players and looking at Arsenal’s injury history at the position, there are never too many defensive backs.
If it wasn’t for two horrible injuries, Debuchy could have very likely been one of the best value buys of the premier league last season. Rarely were there any problems on the right when he was on the pitch and that’s why I don’t see him going anywhere in the near future. The Frenchman is STAYING and that is good, because that provides some more competition at the position.
