Arsenal Fans Shaming Themselves with Gabriel Paulista Threats
By Josh Sippie
Nobody wanted to see Jack Wilshere get hurt. Not me, not you, not Arsene Wenger and not even Gabriel Paulista. Unconfirmed reports indicate that it was our new Brazilian center back Gabriel Paulista who was responsible for the tackle that injured the young English midfielder.
What has happened since and what Arsenal “fans” have done in response is absolutely disgusting. Take a look:
The reaction by the Gunner “Faithful” out there is giving them a bad name and an awful reputation. It really is every other day that someone is getting threatened to death on social media. It happened to Petr Cech, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and anyone else who has ever joined a rival. However, it is not everyday that someone still on the team is getting the same kinds of threats.

Gabriel Paulista is a very intense player. In a friendly against Chile he was responsible for a crunching tackle on Arsenal golden boy Alexis Sanchez as well. If Alexis would have gotten hurt, even in a competitive match, the backlash would have been the same.
But you cannot expect Gabriel Paulsita to tone it down. It would be the same to ask Jack Wilshere to tone down his rambunctious attitude and off-field antics. It would rob him of a little bit of who he is and it would hinder his play style. The way you practice and the way you are as a human being dictates how you perform on the pitch.
Jack Wilshere is a bit of a punk, and I mean that in a good way. He follows his own rules and does not accept any sort of slight. He does not back down and he is not afraid of anything. That is how he performs on the pitch. If you ask him to stop being the rebel that he is, he loses some of that personality that makes him who he is in matches.
The same applies to Gabriel Paulista. He is a very aggressive, intense and fearless player. That is who he is in practice and that is who he turns into on the pitch. He did not intentionally hurt Jack Wilshere. He did not go all Tanya Harding on him with a crowbar. He hurt him accidentally performing an act that we see a hundred times a day, a slide tackle.

Arsenal fans lashing out at Gabriel Paulista for being an intense player is disgusting. The screen shot captured above does not even show some of the worst social media posts, from death threats to family threats.
It may all be social media nonsense and people caught up in the moment, but that does not make it any less appalling. Anyone can sit behind a social media handle and threaten someone to death. Most of it was probably for attention but at least some of it was pure, passionate anger and that is a shame.
Hopefully Gabriel Paulista is unaffected by the threats and hopefully we do not see anything crazy like boos when he comes onto the pitch. You have to have more class than that.
