Francis Coquelin, Le Coq, the Flying Coq, or whatever you want to call him deserves massive credit for what he did for Arsenal last season. All of their wildest fantasies as far as what life could be like with a true defensive midfielder were answered and then some.

Coquelin may deserve more credit for saving the season than anyone else. He essentially shut down all of the opposing midfield and prevented them from building attacks in the center of the pitch, where they could line up like a firing squad and take out our defense.
His tackling is spot on and his interceptions topped Matic in no time. In short, Coquelin has become the best defensive midfielder in the league. Wherever Nemaja Matic sits rating-wise, Coquelin deserves to be right there with him and justifiably above him.
Matic came in last year ranked 82 and figures to get a point boost at the most. Coquelin should therefore be an 83, no questions asked. He is dominant and demonstrative. However, for a guy with just a half a season under his belt, he will not be given the rating he earned. Instead, look fora rating that still sits in the 70s, as unfortunate as that is.
