This morning, I finally started breathing again after the nervy victory over Crystal Palace that saw Arsenal create so many chances and convert so few – two to be exact. Crystal Palace has always been a stingy opponent and we got exactly what we could have expected: another hard-fought, well-earned 2-1 victory over the Eagles.

Next: What did we learn from Crystal Palace?

Next up on the docket is long-time rival and surprisingly third place Liverpool. The Anfield squad has one of the richest histories in the Premier League but history gets you nothing. This is not a very strong Liverpool club.

Despite winning their first two matches, Liverpool (and Manchester United, I may add) only managed two goals across two competitions, one against newly promoted Bournemouth and one against a quickly sliding Stoke City.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Christian Benteke may have been a great signing but there is no hiding how little this team is able to create. Going up against a usually-solid Arsenal defense is going to do them no favors and I could very easily see them being frustrated by the Gunners.

Liverpool has also surrendered no goals, which is a credit to their defense. Although, it must be restated that they played Stoke City and Bournemouth. Facing Alexis and Mesut Ozil is a bit of a different cup of tea. Arsenal trounced Liverpool last April by a score of 4-1 and this team has only gotten better.

Getting the West Ham monkey off their back will allow the Gunners a tremendous amount of freedom from pressure. This will be a game that the Gunners express themselves.

Who will they start? We will start where we always do, at the back.
