5 Burning Questions After Arsenal’s 0-0 Draw with Liverpool
4. What’s the Deal with the Theo Walcott Situation?
This question doesn’t pertain exclusively to the Liverpool game, but it is a truly mystifying case.
I genuinely don’t understand why we just re-signed Theo Walcott on a £140,000 a week contract. I may not think that he’s worth that much, but let’s leave that aside. Why are we paying someone so much money to sit on our bench?

Sure, he does get substitute appearances, but they’re usually quite ineffective.
And when he starts at striker, nothing really huge comes from it either.
Walcott started the Community Shield up top and was anonymous during his time on the field, and when he came on against Liverpool, he was quite ineffective. People will point to the FA Cup final and the 4-0 win over West Brom at the end of last season, but the fact is that our opposition was extremely poor.
It’d make much more sense to bring him on the right side instead of up top, but then again, the question is, why are we spending £140k a week on a substitute?
It would be easy to say that the simple solution is to start Walcott, but that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, because we have better players in every position. I am just utterly confused by this whole situation, and I think Arsenal have mishandled the Theo Walcott case.
