With the transfer window drawing to a close, help is on the way for Arsenal as Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is ‘optimistic’ that signings will be made. As far as who will be signed, it is anyone’s guess. Many have called for Grzegorz Krychowiak and that would be a welcome signing indeed. The Polish bruiser, however, has committed to current club Sevilla and would cost upwards of £25 million.

While Arsenal could very much use the reinforcement in the holding portion of the midfield, it has been the attack that is in need of augmentation and one man could solve that at a relatively low price: Borussia Dortmund fan favorite Jakub Blaszczykowski.

Affectionately known as “Kuba”, this particular Polish midfielder appears a much more suitable option. He has yet to feature in any game for Dortmund as they have risen to the top of the Bundesliga and despite being a long-standing favorite in the squad, he does not appear to be part of the future that new manager Thomas Tuchel has in mind.

Now 29 years old and still in the top tier of midfielders in world football, Kuba is going to be seeking first team football, even if that means departing his home since 2007. Kuba is a loyal footballer who has stayed with Dortmund and made 197 appearances while his team mates and countrymen were jumping to Bayern Munich. That is a quality that Arsenal have learned to love through their struggles of paying off the Emirates Stadium.

Kuba has two other features that will appeal to Arsene Wenger as well. He is out of favor and in need of a new home and he is cheap. £10 million for a player as seasoned as Kuba at the club and international level is a steal. Given how much Arsenal have unsuccessfully pursued Dortmund products in the past, this one might actually pay off.

His style of play also fits with Arsenal so well. It has long been established that Dortmund and Arsenal have very similar styles in just about everything, from transfer and development policies to the style of play on the pitch. Kuba was a catalyst of that playing style up until the new leadership took over in the midst of his injury. The best possible relocation for him would be to North London.

Kuba has an eye for passing in the opposition’s goal box, as he had 10 assists in his last full season and 9 in the season before that. He has also netted 17 goals in those last two seasons (via WhoScored). Kuba is most definitely a threat in the box, something Arsenal certainly need.

Kuba also has the tenacity of Alexis Sanchez. He rampages with or without the ball with work ethic that Arsene Wenger has come to expect. With Liverpool also in on the Polish midfielder, it is crucial for Arsenal to act fast.
