Arsene Wenger Has Dug Massive Hole for Arsenal with Transfer Silence

The later the transfer window went, the more you could feel it coming. Twitter was erupting with the “Wenger Out” army and various disgruntled fans were trying to get enough momentum to get a protest going at the Emirates. All of this because Arsene Wenger brought no one into Arsenal while the club is riding a massive skid to start the season.

Let’s get one thing out of the way. This current Arsenal squad is a very competent bunch. They can challenge for the title. They may only have added Petr Cech, but add him to the club they had to close out last year and you see a serious Premiership contender. Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have returned and those are two key components that missed out on the second half charge.

However, it is a bit alarming the way Arsenal have started this season. They got trounced by West Ham, went on to a nervy victory at Selhurst Park, proceeded to a toothless home draw against Liverpool and most recently, enjoyed an own goal victory at St. James. None of those results are anything to be proud of. But if a sputtering Arsenal club can nab 7 points out of 12 while all the ‘top squads’ except Manchester City are sputtering just as bad if not worse, then as soon as this club clicks – and it will – the sky is the limit.

All that being said, Arsene Wenger has to have immense faith in this club that he has assembled. He is taking a huge risk by not adding anybody to the mix. He may not have found that perfect signing, but given the start to the season and how much fans were clattering, he could have at the very least brought on someone new to shake things up. But he did not. The outcry is at a fever pitch. The only solution is for this Arsenal side to come out, leave the awful start behind them and start playing like Manchester City.

This could go one of two ways. The club could see the faith Wenger has put in them and step up their game like we all know they are capable of. Or they resume their complacency, dink the ball around the box, and disappear into obscurity. Which one sounds more like Arsenal?

Wenger may have dug himself quite the hole but I have said it before and I will say it again, Arsenal seem to be at their best when their backs are against the wall. As of right now, they are being backed up against the wall. Arsenal is not a team that rolls over and dies. Every time they are on the brink of being counted out, they spring up as if that is all they needed to come to life. This scenario will play out in a similar fashion.

After international break Arsenal face a physical Stoke City before launching into the UEFA Champion’s League. There is no better time to step out from the shadows and remind the masses that we have had what it takes all along, it just was not clicking.

Arsene Wenger is walking a tight rope by not adding some reinforcements to key areas but if he has enough faith in this squad to leave it as is, then I will place my faith in Wenger. This is too good of a club to be playing the way they are and this is most certainly not just a ‘4th place’ contending club either.
