This rumor is a bit questionable because it appears as though Southampton did end up blocking any offers made for their Kenyan defensive midfielder. However, without having made an offer, we will never know.

All we know is that Tottenham supposedly made a £13 million bid and it was immediately blocked by the Saints. Whether that is because Wanyama was off limits or because they value him more highly than that, again, we probably will never know.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

One thing is certain. That is that Wanyama requested to leave the Saints in this transfer window. He was not granted his wish.

Wanyama has many of the same upsides that Witsel does. He just costs about £10 million less. He is a powerful defensive force with enough offense to maintain relevance. He has a fierce shot from range to boot.

The fact that he requested to be transferred may have been unfavorably assessed by the Gunners boss, but wanting to ply his trade at a higher level is hardly cause for demerits.

Wanyama will remain at Southampton for at least the next few months.
