Being trapped behind a 20 year old is not a desirable situation. That 20 year old is better for the team at present and obviously in the future too. All Debuchy can do is hope for a window of opportunity where his veteran leadership can be of use.
That window could be against Zagreb. Debuchy figures to feature in most of the secondary competitions and those will have to be the stage from which he states his case.
Meanwhile, Kieran Gibbs is managing to disappear even more than he already did. It is no fault of his, though. Gibbs is a very qualified left back and he will be able to show that as soon as he gets his shot.
