Edinson Cavani to Arsenal was Not So Far-fetched After all
By Josh Sippie
Nothing like a little game of ‘what if?’ to get us all jazzed up for the upcoming Champions League clash with Croation champion Dinamo Zagren. This time though, we are leaving the traditional Karim Benzema version of ‘what if?’ at home and playing the newly released, Edinson Cavani version of ‘what if?’

With so much speculation from hundred of media moguls, it is hard to discern what is reality and what is smoke without fire in the transfer market. So many player are ‘linked’ to Arsenal but the sources are rarely ever cited. Most of the speculation is the result of wishful thinking and a plea for attention.
Edinson Cavani was and is forevermore one of the most heavily-linked players to Arsenal. The Uruguayan striker fits the bill of what supporters want – a striker that is not Olivier Giroud. After seeing his spirited 2 goal bonanza against Bordeaux, we were treated to a little wishful thinking. What if that fiery South American was doing those things at the Emirates? It has become such a pipe dream that picturing Cavani in an Arsenal kit is almost impossible.
His price tag was never going to be less than £45 million. For that reason, Arsenal never seemed the likely destination. Yet some of Edinson Cavani’s recent statements lend credibility to all of the speculation.
“Many transfer opportunities presented themselves,” he said as reported by Squawka. But in the end, he decided to stick with PSG because they trusted him. It always seemed the likely scenario. Edinson Cavani wanted to be a front man. PSG has been his home through that quest. At Napoli, Cavani proved himself to be one of the best strikers in the world. PSG had Zlatan Ibrahimovic. One does not simply butt in line when Zlatan is the line leader.

As such, Cavani has been confined to the wing. Not far from his desired position, but far enough to make him question. That questioning had two possible answers: leave or wait. Cavani apparently had plenty of offers to leave. Juventus was one such tie and his statements indicate that there were others, meaning Arsenal at least asked some questions. However he chose to wait. All Cavani has to do is play it out until Zlatan moves on at the end of his contract. Conveniently for Cavani, that is next summer.
Edinson Cavani is going to be a striker at PSG. He is going to lead that team just as well as Zlatan did. It may not end the transfer speculation but as long as he is a striker at PSG, barring any major fallout or shift in momentum, he is not going to seek a move.
