Alex Iwobi Should Start Over Alexis For Arsenal Against Tottenham Hotspur
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have a major dilemma on their hands. They have dropped a supremely disappointing affair in the Champion’s League against Dinamo Zagreb. They followed that performance up with an encore away at Stamford Bridge that saw the team finish 2 goals down and as many men down. Well, 3 if you count Francis Coquelin. It is not a good situation.

The Football League Cup is next. Widely regarded as the lesser of all the competitions, it still provides Arsenal with an excellent opportunity to get some confidence and maybe some momentum.
This is a massively unfavorable draw. Normally Wenger would send out some youngsters and let them play against lower-tier teams but he does not have that luxury as much against Tottenham. Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Gabriel Paulista have to miss the match due to injuries and red cards so that gives Wenger an excuse to rotate things a bit.
One rotation that I would love to see but do not see coming is Alex Iwobi for Alexis Sanchez. Alex Iwobi is one of the more promising young talents in our youth system. Wenger spoke incredibly highly of him both before and after the Emirates Cup. Iwobi put on a show at the Emirates Cup, piling up goals and assists like he did it for a living. This was compounded on by a close to the U21 season where he scored 9 goals in 9 games.
Alex Iwobi is only 19 years old and would obviously be a step down from Alexis. However, with how Alexis has been playing, it would be the perfect opportunity. Not only that, but you can bet that Iwobi will bring a ton of energy and enthusiasm to the pitch. As we saw in the Emirates Cup, he has pace to kill for and he actually looked incredibly composed in front of goal. Take a look at his goal against Lyon:
Not an easy feat, that goal. Plus, as you can tell from the video, he and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have a good rapport already and starting the two youngsters opposite of each other could breed fantastic results.

You never want to see Arsenal without Alexis. However, with exhaustion always a concern and given the fact that he has played so much in the past week, it would not be the worst idea to give him a breather. And besides, what would fire him up more than 90 minutes on the bench?
Chances are that if Arsenal start some youngsters, so will Tottenham. Hopefully that will lead to Iwobi being given a shot for Arsenal. It is just the League Cup, for starters. Plus, a chance of scenery could really help this team reinvigorate itself.
