Jeff Reine-Adelaide Receives Appropriate Welcome to Arsenal First-Team
By Josh Sippie
Nothing welcomes a guy to the Arsenal first-team and prepares him for life there like an immediate injury. Jeff Reine-Adelaide was set to join the Arsenal first team as he joined the squad for photos before going down with injury. What is more Arsenal than that?

In fact, the injury bug got so bad that Steve Bould had to suit up in training so that Arsenal could run with enough people.
The injury to Reine-Adelaide really is rather unfortunate. He was included in our A-list for the Champion’s league and figured to find some game time with Arsenal, even being just 17-years old. He looked superb in the Emirates Cup. As Arsene Wenger put it, he played like no 17-year old should play. His composure on the ball, no matter where he was on the pitch, was incredibly noticeable. Even when right in front of Arsneal’s goal, he did not panic with his passes and distributed the ball with firm resolve.
The young French phenom put up assists that would make Ozil smile. Through it all, he rose to be the most highly-renowned prospect in the Arsenal system.
But now he is hurt. Welcome to Arsenal. The injury bug is absolutely unbelievable at this club. While it is hard to chalk it up to much more than bad luck, the fact that it continues to happen is baffling. Young and old, everyone hits the injury list at some point. Even with Wenger’s additions of Shad Forsythe and a mass of other medical and conditioning personnel, injuries continue to plague the team. When it happens to older guys like Tomas Rosicky or Mikel Arteta it makes sense. But when it continually happens to Jack Wilshere and strikes Jeff Reine-Adelaide as well, something is amiss.

What makes this even more frustrating is that we might have seen the young Frenchman suiting up midweek against Tottenham. It is a big match but clearly Wenger has faith in the youngster if he was included on the A-list. He would have provided us with depth that we sorely need given the suspensions and injuries to the side.
It is an all-to familiar situation that Arsenal find themselves in. Although it usually does not include injuries to the youth system. This is an added stress. Hopefully this one actually is just a fluke and not a sign of things to come. The last thing Arsenal need is another career-long injury plague.
