Cesc Fabregas Severing Lingering Arsenal Love With Diego Costa Comments
By Josh Sippie
Cesc Fabregas was a favorite at the Emirates. One of the most talented talents to pass through Arsenal. He was my favorite player because of how he embodied Arsenal and what they stood for. Seeing him leave for Barcelona was tough. It was a career ambition of his, though, so while it was bitter, it was somewhat understandable.
Going to Chelsea was less so. The details surrounding the move are still up for question, so we won’t discuss that here. What we will discuss is the way that Cesc Fabregas has somehow come to embody Chelsea’s mantra.
The Diego Costa incident at Stamford Bridge was an ugly one. There were too many hands, claws, chest bumps and pushes to be considered ‘amicable.’ The outrage was pretty universal when Gabriel Paulista received the red card while Diego Costa was allowed to continue his marauding on the pitch.
The FA thought so too. Prior to the Gabriel decision, the FA slapped a three-match ban on Costa for his part in trying to remove Laurent Koscielny’s face. Seems fair, right? Not according to the formal Arsenal golden boy Cesc Fabregas.
“We all know the causes [of] why he is. Some people understand it, some people don’t. It’s very unfair what happened to him,” he said via ESPNFC. So what Cesc Fabregas is trying to say is that some people understand why Costa continues to get away with mauling centerbacks with his hands and some people don’t understand. But since it is who he is, it is unfair that he was punished.
I really want to make a clever analogy out of this, but the absurdity of the statements is just too much. He should not be punished for clawing Koscielny’s face because that’s just who he is? So when a dog destroys a couch, should he not be reprimanded because that’s just who he is? (Had to get an analogy in).
Jose Mourinho has done his usual blabbering to back this ridiculous statement, indicating that the FA ‘had it out’ for Costa. Why shouldn’t they? He continues to get away with assault and if the refs are not going to do anything, someone has to.
What Cesc Fabregas has said is a glaring example of what is wrong with Diego Costa and what he does. The refs do not punish him because that is just what he does. Celsea have gotten used to it and essentially forgotten that what he is doing is not and should never be part of this game.
Even Pele spoke out about how what Costa did/does is not good for the game.
To defend his actions, even as a team mate, is a blatant show of ignorance. It reinforces Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s infamous remark that playing against Chelsea is like playing against 11 babies. That coming from a guy who had the utmost respect for Mourinho when he played for him.
It is no coincidence that Chelsea continue to get in situations like this. Cesc Fabregas has fallen into Chelsea’s mantra of “get away with it and whine when we don’t.” I understand you have to defend your team mates, but maybe it would be best to just not say anything. That will make you sound far less ignorant.
With each passing day, any fond memories of Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal have to be fading. I still withhold a tremendous amount of respect for his play, but stuff like this reminds me that Chelsea is more of a disease than a team. A very contagious disease. Cesc Fabregas has caught the disease.
Cesc Fabregas had gone on record saying that Arsenal was still in his heart while he was at Chelsea. But is that really even possible? How can Arsenal be in his heart when he is so clearly Chelsea?
In the end, it does not matter. Arsenal has Mesut Ozil and he is legally a genius.
