Joel Campbell Does Everything Right At Arsenal According To Arsene Wenger

One player who is frequently pushed to the peripherals at Arsenal is Joel Campbell. The young Costa Rican forward has jumped from loan side to loan side, searching for some sort of consistency that he can bring home to North London. Unfortunately, it has eluded him thus far. But according to Arsene Wenger, it won’t elude him for much longer. Here is what the boss had to say, via Arsenal.com:

"“I like Joel Campbell very much for two reasons. One is that he has outstanding individual quality, but he is also a team player. He works very hard for the team. I’m convinced he will get a chance here and that he will take it. He has another opportunity against Sheffield Wednesday and I’m hopeful that he will show that he has the quality to play for Arsenal. When you get the chance, you have to be ready. To be ready, you have to prepare. I must say that Joel Campbell and Calum Chambers are two players who do absolutely everything right. They are prepared, the preparation they have created will give them the confidence against Sheffield Wednesday and I’m confident they will play well”"

From Arsene Wenger, that is incredibly high praise. Wenger does not think that many people out there “do everything right” but apparently Joel Campbell is one of them.

We can see it in the matches that Campbell features in, though. Even though he has yet to net for Arsenal, he comes into games ready. He looks determined to make an impact and when you keep putting that much effort forward, eventually you are going to stumble into a goal or two. Maybe twenty.

The fact that all of this is true is one thing. The faith that this shows is another thing. It will not go unnoticed by Joel Campbell. That is one thing about Arsene Wenger that is unmatched in the world of football. He is able to get the most out of his players. He gives them every single chance he can. When he sees something in a player, he will work tirelessly to bring that out.

This is merely another example of it. Joel Campbell has proven his quality on various loan spells, particularly during his time at Olympiakos. But he also proved his quality in the 2014 World Cup. International play is a completely different ball game than club play but the level of competition is as high as it is ever going to be. Joel Campbell was a key component of Costa Rica’s improbable run.

That kind of talent can be replicated at Arsenal. It may just be a matter of confidence. It may be a matter of time. Granted, at the age of 23, he really should start figuring it out soon. But if the League Cup is going to be his stage, then at the very least Campbell has a canvas to paint on (was that enough artistic analogies for one sentence?).

You can bet that Wenger has made it very clear to Campbell how much faith he has in him. It is that faith that has kept him at Arsenal and that faith that will drive him.
