Arsenal’s Daniel Crowley The Latest To Be Called Inadequate
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal youngster and loanee Daniel Crowley has been returned from Barnsley for being inadequate. Apparently he was unable to make an impact in the third tier of English football. This is all rather disheartening given the fact that he is not the only one being dubbed inadequate.
It has been a very tumultuous month for Arsenal’s top prospects. Mostly in a bad way. It all started with the Tonly Pulis/Serge Gnabry fiasco. Pulis stated that Gnabry was not up to par with his high-flying West Brom side, noting that “he just hasn’t been for me, at the moment, at that level to play the games” (via the Mirror). At the risk of harping on this disgusting topic even more, you can read the original reaction here.
After that, a large portion of the Arsenal academy was shawacked (word of the day) by Sheffield United. Wenger responded by saying of his prized youth products: “They were not ready to play at this level, none of them,” (via the Metro).

So we will go ahead and add the five youth products that featured against Sheffield United to the list of Arsenal products that are not good enough (except Krystian Bielik).
Aside from Tony Pulis’ bizarre and misplaced opinion of an athlete that we have seen make the grade for an Arsenal side that has been better than his West Brom side since the history of ever, Daniel Crowley’s degradation is the most shocking. But even more than being shocking, it is incredibly confusing. He is pegged to be one of the brightest talents in the system. he has dubbed the next Jack Wilshere, albeit, hopefully a healthier one.
But that is not the main thing that is confusing about his early return. It was just a month ago that Barnsley boss Lee Johnson was heaping praise on the young Crowley.
“I think he can develop into anything he wants. He’s a fantastic talent, got great technique, acceleration, he’s got a real desire to be the best. I think he’s naturally mature but he’s only just turned 18, so he needs time to grow – with his decision-making – not just in terms of age. But if his attitude is good, then the world’s his oyster,” (via the Daily Star).
What an interesting transition. From having the world at his fingertips to not being good enough for a team that is fighting relegation in the third tier of English football. What a strange world this is.
Arsenal FC
As a brief intermission, let’s consider that their is a conspiracy theory and that all of the squads with Arsenal loanees are jealous and want to bring Arsenal down.
Now that that coarse intermission is over, let’s move on with what exactly is going on. Daniel Crowley’s return is not nearly as insulting as Tony Pulis’ audacity to demote Serge Gnabry. At least we now have Crowley back home where he can continue to learn and grow with the team mates he will be playing with in the future. It may be a bit flustering to have our players degraded but at least he did not get the Serge Gnabry treatment. I wish Tony Pulis would send Gnabry back. That way we could bag his Baggies with the man that is not good enough for his team.
Size has always been the big question for Daniel Crowley. But as we have seen from guys like Santi Cazorla, harping about size is moot. Andres Iniesta is a small midfielder and one of the most successful of all time. Why can’t Daniel Crowley do the same? Granted the Premier League is a more physical game, it can still be done.
Crowley is going to make the grade. It really does not make sense how he went from the next big thing, according to Lee Johnson, to inadequate. Maybe the Barnsley gaffer is just sour. I will be incredibly suspicious if Ainsley Maitland-Niles is send home next week.
Welcome home, Mr. Crowley!
