Arsenal’s Predicted Starters Against Swansea City
By Josh Sippie
What once was a huge momentum binge is now turning into a big question mark. How much did losing to Sheffield Wednesday really effect this Arsenal club? We are going to have to see against Swansea. One thing is certain. Injuries have put this run at a major risk.
The one thing working in Arsenal’s favor is the acceptance that it was just the Football League Cup and most of Arsenal’s starters were unused in the match. Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla – they are all going to be rested and ready to enact vengeance on the nearest opponent. That opponent is Swansea City.
The Swans have had an interesting campaign. After busting out of the gates and into the top four to begin the season, they have faded to mid-table, where the goals have been incredibly illusive. They now sit 12th in the table (which is higher than Chelsea).
But that does not mean this team cannot put up a fight. The Swans are a quality side that is merely in a rough patch. They are definitely an upper-half of the table team. No questions about it.
That should not matter too much, however. Despite Walcott and the Ox being injured, Arsenal’s big guns are returning to play and they will want to erase Sheffield Wednesday from their heads earlier rather than later.
However, one major concern is the encroaching Bayern Munich match-up the following Wednesday. It means that another short rest period will be in play and with the injuries to Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, more players are going to be at risk of injury.
There are some questions we must address in the following predictions. For instance, seeing as how three right wingers/midfielders have fallen to injury, who plays the role? We will tackle this question and more.
As we always do when predicting the starting XI, let’s start at the back, with the man you know will be there.
