Arsenal v Swansea City Player Ratings

Arsenal overcome a shoddy first half to bring home a rather impressive 3-0 win at Liberty Stadium. The gritty performance is not one that Arsenal of the past could have pulled off.

8.8. Kept Arsenal in the first half with some solid decision making. I’d like to call Bafetimbi Gomis’ slip up a result of Cech’s intimidation. Made some clutch saves later on as well. Arsenal had no business keeping a clean sheet. It was completely thanks to Petr Cech. GK. Arsenal FC. PETR CECH

7.7. Rough first half. Was outplayed by Montero more times than not. Came out in the second half and, like the rest of the team, looked much better. Had one of the best goal line clearances you will ever see but it was moot due to an offside. Still looked nice.. RB. Arsenal FC. HECTOR BELLERIN

7.2. Bit of a strange decision to give Per Mertesacker the go ahead of Gabriel and it nearly cost Arsenal early, as Swansea had one and nearly a second run in behind the defense. Not much. CB. Arsenal FC. PER MERTESACKER

CB. Arsenal FC. LAURENT KOSCIELNY. 7.8. Fell in with the times in the first half. Did not look good. Was caught forward and let Gomis in behind him. Recovered in the second half, boxed out Fabianski and nabbed a goal that had the Liberty Stadium losing their collective minds. Still a goal, two in a week for the Boss.

CB. Arsenal FC. NACHO MONREAL. 7.6. Monreal was caught in possession far too often early on. Pretty standard overall. Made some nice tackles at the end of the game and got forward well.

FRANCIS COQUELIN. 7.8. Another day at the office for Francis Coquelin. Did everything that was expected of him and maintained decent control in the middle of the pitch. Jonjo Shelvey did find a lot of space at times but can’t expect Le Coq to shut down everyone all the time.. MID. Arsenal FC

7.5. Cazorla looked like he was not sure if he even wanted to be out on the pitch in the first half. He kept surrendering possession and would not track back like his usual self. Not all that impressive overall. Had some nice counter attacking runs in the second half but failed to do much more than that.. MID. Arsenal FC. SANTI CAZORLA

9.0. MAN OF THE MATCH. A nasty first half by his team mates did not interfere with a very strong outing from Joel Campbell. He posed the biggest threat for Arsenal, using his speed, strength and incredibly impressive dribbling to pass through Swansea’s defense. Notched his first goal and looked incredibly cool about it. He was confident and composed on the ball when it fell to him. Maybe this is the start of something great. It always seemed to be a question of confidence.. MID. Arsenal FC. JOEL CAMPBELL

MID. Arsenal FC. MESUT OZIL. 8.0. Hardly noticed in the first 45. Came out in the second and added another assist, because that’s just what he does. As the announcers said, he made the second half look easy.

Arsenal FC. ALEXIS SANCHEZ. 6.8. Not sure he was on the pitch for the first 45 minutes. Then again, the only thing we saw from him in the second half was a failed attempt at goal. Not the best day for Alexis but there is not an athlete out there who has never had a bad game.. MID

Arsenal FC. OLIVIER GIROUD. 8.2. Gave us an injury scare but aside from that, had a better first half than most. His hold up play is improving massively. He broke the scoring deadlock with another beautiful header. Keeps his goals per 90 still over 1.00.. ST

DEF. Arsenal FC. CALUM CHAMBERS. 7.0. Came on, got forward well, shored up the defense.

KIERAN GIBBS. 7.0. Came on. Ran around. . DEF. Arsenal FC

7.0. Came on literally thirty seconds before the final whistle. The announcer had plenty of good to say about him though.. MID. Arsenal FC. ALEX IWOBI
