Arsenal v Tottenham: Player Ratings

facebooktwitterreddit

Arsenal gutted out a 1-1 draw with hated neighbors Tottenham Sunday, with Kieran Gibbs providing the equalizer after a first-half goal from Harry Kane. Now that we all have a decade less life expectancy…Here are your player ratings:

PETR CECH. 7.4. Produced a couple great saves today but had one very weird moment where he and Mertesacker didn’t know who was supposed to take possession of that round thing at their feet.. GK. Arsenal FC

Struggled today. Wasn’t awful and is improving with more game time. Just difficult to have him in the side when you’re used to human electricity patrolling the right flank.. RB. Arsenal FC. MATHIEU DEBUCHY. 7.1

PER MERTESACKER. 7.2. When he gets stuck in deep, he’s a great defender. But when he and Koscielny push up the pitch, he’s an absolute liability. Good leader to have in the wars that derbies typically are.. CB. Arsenal FC

7.2. His mistake on the Kane’s goal, why on earth he would try to jump offside there is beyond me and probably anyone else watching.  . CB. Arsenal FC. LAURENT KOSCIELNY

NACHO MONREAL. 7.3. Kept pushing until the end, his combination with Gibbs in the final minutes provided the impetus for the drive at the end of the match.. CB. Arsenal FC

FRANCIS COQUELIN. 7.8. Had himself a sparkler today. Coquelin has been drawing praise across Europe and this performance showed why. He’s a savage enforcer with much-improved footwork and distribution abilities. Broke up multiple attacks that could have gutted Arsenal a season ago.. MID. Arsenal FC

SANTI CAZORLA. 6.8. Bad day at the office for Cazorla. He hasn’t looked himself since the first half in Munich and he made way at halftime today. Hopefully there’s no injury here, or Arsenal is going to be in some very deep, very hot water.. MID. Arsenal FC

Arsenal FC. JOEL CAMPBELL. 7.5. This kid can deputize successfully during this injury spell; he’s not going to set the league on fire, he probably won’t get many goals. But he possesses a real fighter’s ethic and some pretty quick feet. That said, he’s exceedingly one-dimensional and is out of options if the route to cut inside onto his left foot is taken away from him.. ST

Arsenal FC. MESUT OZIL. 8.0. An absolute peach of a pass onto Gibbs’ left foot, today he becomes the first player in Premier League history to notch an assist in six consecutive games.  . MID

7.4. Looks well off the pace at this point and he won’t get too much of a chance to recharge the batteries either. The amount of attention he demands is always helpful.. MID. Arsenal FC. ALEXIS SANCHEZ

ST. Arsenal FC. OLIVIER GIROUD. 7.4. Missed a wonderful chance to level it and put an even more difficult header off the bar. He’s starting to channel his negative energy into getting chippy with center backs. As long as he keeps his cool, that massive frame is capable of bullying plenty of defenders.

MID. Arsenal FC. MATHIEU FLAMINI. 7.3. On for Cazorla at the half, good guy to have in a game where organization and shouting is necessary to maintain some order as things inevitably crumble. No wonder goal this time, but no glaring mistakes either.

MIKEL ARTETA. 7.4. Came on in a pressure situation, won a great header, marshaled his boys as capably as usual.. MID. Arsenal FC

8.1. MAN OF THE MATCH- The temptation to give it to Ozil is strong; he wrote his name in the record books today, along with seven chances created. But Gibbs gets the nod for coming on and letting loose as a sub in a vital fixture. . LB. Arsenal FC. KIERAN GIBBS
