Alexis Sanchez Drawing Beautiful Jealousy From Manchester United

It only makes sense that someone as good as Alexis Sanchez is going to be sought after. Reports from earlier in the year have indicated that Real Madrid and PSG have made inquiries. As two of the best teams in the world, it is rather flattering to have them asking about.

And then there is Manchester United. If we have learned anything from the Red Devils, it is that they will pay anything for anyone and not even think about the fit. Spend money, that is the game. Not exactly what Sir Alex Ferguson had in mind, but that is a topic for another day. Spanish source Don Balon indicates that Louis Van Gaal has poked his nose in Arsene Wenger’s office and asked about the availability of the Chilean wonder, Alexis Sanchez.

If that does not make you giggle, I don’t know what will. There are several things to cover regarding this story. Let’s start with the most pertinent. This move will not happen. Ever.

“I have no idea what the media are saying, but I feel comfortable at Arsenal. I’m happy with my team-mates and the city of London is beautiful. I’m not going to change, I’m very happy,” Alexis Sanchez was quoted as saying by the Independent not long ago.

Seems pretty set in stone. Alexis Sanchez is happy where he is, and why shouldn’t he be? Arsenal are tied for tops in the league and they have finished above Manchester United every year since he has been a Gunner.

Now, let’s take a moment to laugh at Manchester United’s transfer policy. Remember Angel Di Maria? Manchester United spent nearly twice the cost of Alexis Sanchez on him in the same summer that Alexis moved. The Argentine stud only spent one year at the club. He was ill-fitted to the Premier Leauge – again, after just one year – and was sold for a fraction of the cost to PSG, where he is doing wonderfully.

That is embarrassing. Mesut Ozil struggled in his first year too. But Arsene Wenger has the basic decency to understand that switching leagues is not something that just happens easily. Poor Di Maria wasted a year of his career at a club that had no idea how to use him and no doubt the two sides regret it immensely.

Then there is Anthony Martial. This kid could turn into something special, no doubt. But in order for that to happen, United have to figure out what he is. That’s right, Manchester United spent more than the cost of Alexis Sanchez on the 19-year old and they don’t even know how best to use him. Of course, that could all come down to Wayne Rooney laying down some stinkers, yet holding the keys to the club.

What exactly is it about Manchester United that is supposed to be appealing to Alexis Sanchez? He is similar to Martial in that he can be used on the wings or as a striker. Would United stumble all over themselves trying to sort that out too? Alexis Sanchez would be stuck behind a decaying Wayne Rooney as well. Not only that, but Alexis Sanchez has made it painfully clear how much he likes what Arsene Wenger is doing. He is building a team and filling the gaps with strategic purchases. He is not purchasing everything and filling the gaps with more purchases.

Hopefully the reports are true, because it is hilarious. But even if not, at least we had a chance to remind ourselves that Alexis Sanchez would never go to Manchester United.
