Arsenal’s Attack Missing Aaron Ramsey The Most
By Josh Sippie
Aaron Ramsey has not been able to recreate this 2013/14 numbers. Those were insane numbers from a midfielder. But to say that he has been ineffective or ‘not the 2013/14 Ramsey’ since that time is simply not true. To prove it, take a look at how Arsenal do with and without Aaron Ramsey
Hard to argue. While it has been a major cause for debate whether or not Ramsey should be on the wings, it is pretty darn clear that he should be. Ramsey’s presence on the ball is not something that is easily replaceable. His defensive prowess trumps that of Campbell or the Ox, no matter how much effort the two true wingers put in.
Aaron Ramsey is an Arsenal game changer and despite him appearing ‘out of whack’ from not being able to score goals, he has still been crucial to the team. Even Martin Keown has cited Ramsey as the guy that Arsenal miss the most. They need their guy back on the right. He had just scored his first goal and Arsenal was rolling, then he got hurt.

2013/14 was no fluke. Aaron Ramsey really is that good of a player. 16 goals and ten assists is unbelievable from a midfielder’s perspective. It is also incredibly difficult to follow up on.
But he actually did. In 2014/15, despite three separate injuries, Ramsey managed nine goals and seven assists. Those numbers would look plenty impressive if he had not nearly doubled them the year before. The Welshman is guilty of nothing more than spoiling us.
Clearly Aaron Ramsey deserves to be starting on this team at all possible opportunities. Wherever he plays, he is successful. And so is Arsenal. While the right wing is not exactly where Ramsey wants to spend his time, the ability he has allows him to be effective from wherever. His box-to-box ethic keeps him a relevant force within the flow of the game no matter where the ball is or where the momentum sits.
Ramsey is a creator. I have always likened him to Alexis Sanchez in that he is able to influence a game all by himself. Not many people can do that.

Even on the right wing, Ramsey has maintained defensive relevance. His interceptions per game have actually increased and is at the highest in his career. In terms of successful tackles, he is still on point, albeit not as prevalent as he was as a central midfielder (stats via WhoScored.com).
Luckily for Arsenal, Ramsey is coming back after international break. Not a moment too soon.
