4. Wages

Once the outrageous fee has been paid, Arsene Wenger must then pay Messi weekly for his services. The reports indicate that Lionel Messi would be in search of £600,000 a week. Again, that is a big amount, so let’s put it in terms of Arsenal amounts. That is a new wonderkid every two weeks. It is a Jeff Reine-Adelaide every month. It is one-third of Arsenal’s entire player salaries at the moment.

More from Arsenal Transfer Rumours

Again, that is a lot of money and Arsene Wenger is not one to spend a lot of money. He is not even the kind of guy to spend a little money. Wenger’s way involves prospects, some slick, bargasin signings and a few Kim Kallstroms. Lionel Messi is not part of any of those groups.

The reports also indicate that Messi would have to make £18 million a year before taxes. £18 million. That is a new signing. That is the cost of Olivier Giroud’s and Laurent Koscielny’s original transfer fees combined. Every year.

Is Lionel Messi worth it? Absolutely. But that does not mean that Arsene Wenger will pay it. He won’t.
