5 Reasons Zlatan Ibrahimovic Will Not Join Arsenal
By Josh Sippie
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is being linked to Arsenal again. At the risk of looking foolish and believing it, let’s nip this in the bud with five reasons this move will never happen.
With Lionel Messi on the brink of being crowdfunded into coming to Arsenal, it is another superstar striker that has vaulted onto the radar yet again. The Swedish Behemoth Zlatan Ibrahimovic is somewhat suddenly and out of the blue being linked to a North London move for the second time in recent memory.

As is usually the case, the first step in diagnosing this transfer rumor is to fantasize. Zlatan Ibrahimovic in an Arsenal jersey? Yes please. He’s like a bigger, stronger, more dexterous Olivier Giroud. What could possibly go wrong? Arsenal would finally have that elite striker to pair with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. It would be a trifecta of Gunner brilliance.

But after that fantasizing period is over, we must consider the plausibility. The only good news about this potential deal is that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract is up at the end of the year. He is free to go where he likes. Therefore a transfer fee would not be needed. It’s like Arsene Wenger’s dreamland. But at the same time, Zlatan is getting older and he would directly replace Giroud, something that Wenger continually insists doesn’t need doing.
And then we start getting into the other reasons why this move could never happen. We will get into those reasons here in a second, but first, a disclaimer. As a natural-born skeptic, I doubt every single transfer rumor because it is in my DNA to do so. I want nothing more than to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic in an Arsenal jersey. I just try to stay grounded with such ridiculous dreams because it seems impossible.
If you want to maintain faith that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is coming to Arsenal, turn back now (although we do find optimism in most of these detractors). If you want to know why the move will never happen, Start with number five.
