Arsenal dropped a massive match against West Brom. It was bad, ugly and rotten for so many reasons. But here are five things we learned.

It was not a pretty game. After seeing Francis Coquelin hit the dirt early with an apparent knee injury, Arsenal was already on the back foot. Mikel Arteta was brought in and it was bound to get ugly.

Yet the Gunners managed to pull one up via a beautiful set piece from Mesut Ozil off of Olivier Giroud’s head. Who else? It seemed to be that the momentum may be enough to tide the game, but West Brom quickly answered back with a set piece of their own. The same shoddy set piece defending came back to bite Arsenal and the game was level.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Well, that was not enough for the Baggies. They nabbed another from a Mikel Arteta own goal and that would be it. Mesut Ozil hit the post, Santi Cazorla slipped on a penalty kick and skied it and Arsenal dropped a crucial match due to injuries and lack of that kill mentality.

So now we move on. Dinamo Zagreb is lurking on Tuesday and I’d be lying if I said I was not mortified at the prospect of having to see this same Arsenal, only with more injuries, taking the pitch again so soon. Arsenal looked in shambles at times during the game. Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil did all they could, particularly Mesut Ozil, but it was not enough.

As it is with any loss, we must now learn. What can we take away from the match? We will start with a particularly negative realization about the left side of our formation
