Alexis can mentally overcome exhaustion

Alexis was doing things I’ve never seen before. He dribbled the ball four times in a row off of his forehead. He passed himself the ball off of the top of his back. He looked like a street performer. Except for the fact that he was also clutch in front of goal. After a good opportunity or two missed, the Chilean got his bearings back and drilled home a brace.

He was more physical than the Zagreb fullbacks, he was faster than the Zagreb midfielders. He was not tired. Not a bit. For the past few matches, Alexis’ lack of goal production was attributed to exhaustion. And he did look downright tired at times. But somehow, in the midst of this streak of games, Alexis put all that exhaustion behind him.

The only way to describe it is that he mentally overcame his exhaustion to become his usual dominant self. Alexis was tied for second on the team in successful tackles. He had two keys passes, two shots on target and while he was dispossessed a massive eight times, he always made that extra effort to get the ball back. And yes, that does count for something.

Noticeably absent on this list is Mesut Ozil. Why? Because what else can we learn about him? He is a monster.
