12. Pat Jennings

One of the greatest goalkeepers of a generation, Pat Jennings well deserves to be considered among the Arsenal greats. Perhaps his most impressive feat is to be well revered among both halves of North London, showing how great a goal keeper he was. Born in the wrong era, Jennings does not have the same amount of titles as many on this list. However, his quality as a keeper has never been doubted among both Spurs and Arsenal fans.

Signed in 1977 from Tottenham, Jennings’ Arsenal career was shrouded in doubt. Many at White Hart Lane believed him to be past his best, and there were serious doubts over his age when he first signed for the Gunners. After already playing for 14 years, most of these at Arsenal’s rivals, Jennings went on to play for another eight years at Highbury before retiring in 1985.

An excellent goalkeeper, Jennings was the first player to play more than 1,000 games in English football, helping Arsenal make four consecutive finals at the turn of the decade. Unfortunately, Arsenal lost two of three FA Cup finals as well as a European Cup Winner’s Cup, with Jennings’ only trophy being the 1979 victory over Manchester United. A true legend in both halves of North London, Jennings is considered to be one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.
