10. David Seaman

The highest goalkeeper on the list, and the greatest goalkeeper in Arsenal history. It is quite right that David Seaman opens the top 10. Playing for 13 seasons at Highbury, Seaman was signed by George Graham in 1990 for £1.3 million. Considered a gamble when first announced, by the time Seaman had won almost everything possible, playing under various managers, he was considered one of Graham’s most astute signings and one of Arsenal’s greatest players.

The signing was a world record for a goalkeeper in 1990, but Seaman immediately hit the ground running, conceding only 18 goals on the way to winning the league. Seaman went on to start throughout the 90’s, winning the cup double in 93 and the league and cup double under Wenger five years later. 1999 was perhaps Seaman’s greatest year, conceding only 19 goals as Arsenal missed out on the title by one point to Manchester United.

The proudest moment, however, was leading the team out as captain in the 2003 FA Cup final. In what was his final game, Seaman fittingly kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Southampton. The trophy was certainly earned by Seaman, as he pulled off one of the greatest saves of all time in the round before from Sheffield United’s Paul Peschisolido. Peter Schmeichel described it as “the best save I’ve ever seen”, and it truly displayed all of the goal keeper’s qualities.
