Arsenal Better Off Leaving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Transfer Behind

facebooktwitterreddit

Arsenal has been put in the market for strikers by the media and as such, names like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyeng are destined to pop up. However, the transfer does not make sense.

When it comes to the unrealistic rumors that Arsenal are tied to, several names should come to mind. Karim Benzema. Edinson Cavani. Gonzalo Higuain. Those three compose the holy trinity of silly and baseless rumors. But if there were to be a fourth member of the trinity, turning the trifecta into a strange square or rhombus ordeal, that fourth member would be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabonese striker is putting on a clinic in Germany. Borussia Dortmund held strong last year, which was truly a beautiful thing, and are now back at it with their ever-heated rivalry with Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga is turning into a two-horse race yet again.

More from Arsenal Transfer Rumours

If Borussia Dortmund is the horse, Aubameyang is the jockey. He has scored 22 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions (via WhoScored). He is the point of the Dortmund spear. And yet, rumors are indicating that for the incredibly reasonable price of £42 million, Aubameyang can be ours!

Not a chance. There is nothing in this rumor. Not a shred. For starters, while he is worth that much money, Arsenal would never pay it. Not for a position that is staffed just how Arsene Wenger wants it. Wenger still has to deduce how Chuba Akpom will work out at Arsenal. Not only that, but in terms of speedy strikers like the Dortmund hit man, Wenger will tell you that Arsenal already have two – Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck.

Beyond that logistical part of it, we get to the other end of the transfer – Borussia Dortmund. This is a very proud club. When Jurgen Klopp came to the EPL, he even made a point that he would not take any Dortmund players to Liverpool. Who does that? Such loyalty is so admirable that it’s almost fairy-tale like. Coaxing a player away from Dortmund is not as easy as Bayern have made it look. Dortmund has a very strong sense of pride and even when the team was tanking, players were committing themselves to the club.

Think of it like this. Why would the front man of a German powerhouse go to an enigmatic, perennial fourth place squad like Arsenal? Even with the history, it does not make sense. It would be like Alexis Sanchez packing up and moving to Wolfsburg. Why would that ever happen?

It’s nice to fantasize about the Gabonese striker leading Arsenal’s attack. But living in a fantasy world is the quickest way to lose touch with reality. Now excuse me while I go ponder Isco in an Arsenal kit for a bit.
