Arsenal have a long and rich history as one of the most celebrated football clubs in the English top flight. Some Gooners may believe that Arsenal have always been an attack-minded club, however that was not always the case. Before the arrival of Arsene Wenger in England, Arsenal were a tough defensive unit during the years of George Graham’s stewardship. “Boring, boring Arsenal” was the chant from opposition and “One nil to the Arsenal” was always the response. Luckily, no matter what style of play Arsenal employed, the club has fired home some amazing goals that will live on in the hearts of supporters for years to come.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

So when it comes to picking the best goals in Arsenal history, there are so many that we could call upon. Narrowing down a list of 20 goals for a club that has been operating for over a century is nearly an impossible feat. However we can take a look back on the last two decades of Arsenal’s history and reminisce on some of the best times the North London club has ever seen.

The criteria for this list is simple. Each goal will be judged on three categories. Technical skill: judging how skillful the attacking move and the strike were. Historic significance, which will tell us how big of a part it played in Arsenal’s legacy. Finally, level of competition which is self-explanatory. A winner against Manchester United will always be more important than one against Norwich. No offense Canaries. These three areas will be given a value from 1 to 5 and then added together.

Of course we will have quite a few entries with the same numerical value, so the ultimate verdict will be slightly subjective on my part. Also if a goal is a part of a hat trick, that will obviously hold some importance. So let’s get started with number 20.
