5 Reasons Arsenal Should Give Mathieu Flamini New Contract
By Josh Sippie
3. Flamini doesn’t expect much
Flamini knows how much Coquelin has done for this team. If Arsene Wenger is not going to sign someone to compete for the spot with Francis Coquelin, the next best thing is to have someone who is a bit of a step down but does not feel entitled to be challenging for a first team role. That is Mathieu Flamini.

Along the same lines of Mathieu Flamini not expecting much, that also goes on to mean that he will never raise a fuss about his lack of appearances. Mathieu Debuchy is clattering for more play time. It’s not necessarily a distraction, but it could grow into one. And when he does find game time, you wonder if he will be too frustrated to be effective, or if he will be trying way too hard.
Mathieu Flamini knows his role on this Arsenal squad. But that does not mean that he is complacent. He is still fighting for a spot. He said, as quoted by the Guardian:
“I have an opportunity to be back in the team and I will try to prove every game that I can be in the team. Can I play twice a week for three months? I think I can but now it is my job to prove it.”
That is the kind of attitude that people need. There is no sense of entitlement. There is just a sense of ‘let me prove it.’
Moving on, we touch on what exactly this club means to him.
