Arsenal Need Danny Welbeck Fit For Euros

Danny Welbeck is one of Arsene Wenger’s favorite projects at Arsenal but if he is not fit for the Euros, there may be residual effects with the club.

It was not all that long ago that Arsenal and injury setbacks were synonymous. A three week injury meant two months. A three month injury meant five months. It became commonplace with the team.

But when Shad Forsythe arrived, Arsenal had seemingly erased those setbacks. Players were actually coming back ahead of time and looking better than ever.

Danny Welbeck may be a part of the new era of Arsenal but he is suffering from a spell of the old time Arsenal problems. According to reports in the Express, Welbeck is now not expected back until February. Meaning it will have been a ten month injury. Does not sound like any knee bruise I have ever heard of.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Arsenal is currently loving life with Olivier Giroud at the front. Now that he has established himself as the third-fastest player ever to score 50 goals at Arsenal, everyone is singing his praises. Wenger is calling him on par with the best in Europe and Walcott is calling him an absolute joy to play with. Everyone loves Giroud!

Behind him sits Theo Walcott, who has been enjoying life on the wings again. Walcott is still a viable striking option as we saw earlier in the year.

With two solid options, Danny Welbeck’s injury layoff is not the worst news in the world. But it is rather bothersome. Welbeck is now in danger of missing out on the Euros. International competitions like that are where we often see the best of Danny Welbeck. While club competitions still manage to be a massive problem for him, there are few strikers out there better than Danny Welbeck on the international stage. In the qualifiers, he was tops on the goal chart until his injury stole him away.

Arsenal absolutely need Danny Welbeck to be fit for the Euros. The goals just have not come at Arsenal but as long as they continue to come internationally, the hope is that the confidence will be transferable. If he’s not healthy, there will be no confidence at all.

It’s a long way back for Danny Welbeck. He is missing out on a crucial period for Arsenal. Wenger may always aim to give his projects a chance but this project is going to need massive confidence boosters. The Euros would solve that need.
