Arsenal’s 10 Best Signings Ever Under Arsene Wenger
By Josh Sippie
7. Cesc Fabregas
My heart still aches a little bit every time I see the once Captain Fantastic in Blue. And yet, then I remember that we now have the assist king of the world, Mesut Ozil, and everything will be okay.
But still, Cesc Fabregas was phenomenal. He was one of the first to make the now-popular jump from Barcelona to Arsenal and he made the most out of that decision. Given the unenviable task of assuming Patrick Vieira’s No. 4 shirt, Fabregas did all that was in his power to make the number his.
He mostly succeeded. At the age of 21 he was given the Arsenal captaincy, a role that suited him perfectly. And yet just three years later Fabregas was on a plane to Catalonia. For a hefty fee, I may add.
Fabregas was another guy responsible for keeping Arsenal relevant in their tight budget years. To his credit, he did leave for Barcelona as amiably as possible. Although heading to Chelsea was a different story. But that is a talk for a different day.
On to number six.
