Arsenal have reportedly been on Lorenzo Insigne’s case for awhile now, but they may find their pursuit barred by forces they just can’t overcome.
Arsene Wenger may not be so keen to admit it, but everything points towards Arsenal being in the market for another attacking threat. Arsenal has a handful of wide attackers a their disposal. Yet, it is just Alexis Sanchez who is consistent enough to maintain an untouchable spot on the team. Walcott has developed well and looked incredibly positive but he may still have his sights on the striker role. Joel Campbell and the Ox have shown flashes of brilliance, but their lapses have become apparent as well.
So if you want to get nitpicky, Arsenal has one solid winger option, with the other three having question marks surrounding them.
The Gunners have been tied to the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Denis Cheryshev, Isco and more, but the first link to actually be acknowledged is their link to the little Napoli speedster Lorenzo Insigne. According to Insigne’s agent, Antonio Ottaiano (as quoted by the Telegraph):

“We are delighted with the interest of the PSG and Arsenal. We are talking about two clubs at the top of world football, but Lorenzo is focused on Napoli and the team’s collective goals. This is a good season for Napoli. The team is fighting on all fronts and Insigne wants to win every game.”
Hearing that Arsene Wenger may have at least asked a question or two about Insigne should bring hope to the prospect of Arsenal adding another attacking threat this January. A winger-type would be a welcome addition, but adding someone with the versatility to play striker or more midfield positions may be a more desirable outcome, seeing as how Arsenal’s stock up front is a bit dry.
Whatever the case, Insigne does have experience playing striker as well as both wing positions and the No. 10 role. He has been enjoying life in Naples this year, making 20 appearances and scoring eight goals with six assists (via WhoScored.com). It does not take much of seeing Insigne to pinpoint what makes him special. The 24-year old is incredibly quick and elusive and capable of piercing defenses.

However, he is also a solid passer, as he maintains an 85% pass completion with over two key passes per game. For a winger, those are very impressive numbers and they surpass all of Arsenal’s four wingers, Alexis Sanchez included.
It is no wonder why Wenger likes Insigne. He’s small, technical, quick, and passes well. The fact that he scores goals is just a massive heaping of icing on the cake. Playing with Higuain, Insigne has experience playing with a striker along the same ilk as Olivier Giroud. It’s almost a matter of what isn’t a perfect fit for Arsenal.
Well, the one thing that isn’t a perfect fit is where Insigne is from. Naples.
“He wears jersey he dreamed of wearing when he was little and he will give everything to satisfy the fans,” his agent went on to say.
Serie A may not be the dominant force that they have been in the past, but the league is growing towards it’s former prowess and at the forefront is Naples, just a point off the top spot. Being a hometown kid playing for his hometown club fighting for a Serie A title, life is good. Wenger would have to work his greatest bit of magic yet to pry him away from that set up.

Again though, Insigne is not the only attacker out there. If Insigne’s agent, speaking on “Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli” can be trusted, then Arsene Wenger may be looking to spruce up Arsenal in more ways than one this winter.
