Arsenal vs Newcastle Full Match Highlights And VIdeos

Arsenal squeaked out a 1-0 win at home over Newcastle. Three points is the story, not the multitude of missed chances. Here is the recap with video highlights.
Arsenal came into the Newcastle match looking to establish a cushion at the top of the table. Here is a play by play in convenient bullet-point format of the proceedings, with goals and highlights at the end.

- 0′ – Off we go!
- 0′ – Bellerin delivers a tantalizing cross that misses Giroud’s head by a fraction and has to be turned out for a corner.
- 1′ – The corner bounces around in the box but falls to Elliot.
- 2′ – Another splendid run from Bellerin ends in a cross that the Ox spills onto and sends it comically off the mark.
- 7′ – Bellerin is the point of another probe but it gets turned back for another corner.
- 8′ – Arsenal looking potent as another ball widdles its way into the box and has to be cleared.
- 11′ – Newcastle’s first run sees a cross fall to a diving Petr Cech.
- 13′ – Another inquisitive cross by Hector Bellerin has to be turned away for another corner.
- 16′ – Pesky Newcastle run ends with two shots on goal. Neither troubled Petr Cech.
- 25′ – After a whole lot of nothing, Perez fires a shot at Cech but it flies wide.
- 31′ – Some semblance of an attack as the Ox and Walcott switch sides. Still nothing going.
- 36′ – The Ox makes a positive run and finds Giroud but his shot is blocked.
- 37′ – Arching Ozil corner finds Giroud’s head but he skies it.
- 38′ – Bellerin’s first bad ball leads to a Newcastle break but nothing comes of it.
- 41′ – Bicycle kick on goal by Mitrovic. Cute, but no threat.
- 42′ – Near crucial mistake for the Arsenal defense but Wijnaldum has his tap-in blocked.
- 44′ – Ozil marshaling the troops to push higher up. He wants his assists!
HALF TIME. 0-0. I’d tell you all about the highlights but there weren’t any. Only one goal across the grounds and that was a goal by Sunderland.

- 47′ – Ozil is flying all over the pitch. He’s looking like the only guy wanting to make a difference.
- 47′ – Sloppy giveaway leads to a Newcastle breakaway but Wijnaldum is stoned by Petr Cech.
- 48′ – On the counter, Giroud seems to have a lurching header on goal but he squirts it well wide.
- 48′ – Another attack by Newcastle leads to a wide open attempt by Mitrovic but he skies it.
- 49′ – Ozil sneaks a pass into a charging Ramsey but he can’t get anything behind the shot.
- 54′ – Another dangerous attack by Newcastle ends in a block. Arsenal need to shape up.
- 59′ – Koscielny plays Giroud in but his shot gets clipped. Referee Anthony Taylor thought otherwise.
- 61′ – A skeptical back pass to Eliot is also ignored by that man wearing green.
- 62′ – With Anthony Talylor too far away, Wenger is looking for the fourth official. Time to start a petition.
- 65′ – Giroud is bulled over by Newcastle but again, Taylor is not convinced.
- 66′ – Corner finds Koscielny’s head but it hands on top of the net.
- 67′ – Joel Campbell readying himself. Wenger tells him “go on for either winger, I don’t care which.” We await his decision.
- 72′ – GOAL. Ozil’s corner finds Giroud’s head. The ball falls to Koscielny and into the back of the net. 1-0.
- 76′ – Wenger down to his hoodie and sweats. He may be fancying subbing himself on.
- 78′ – Probing attack falls to Walcott but he can’t control it. Arsenal have awoken.
- 80′ – A Mitrovic header nearly spoils everything but it was just high.
- 83′ – I don’t think Nacho Monreal will be inviting Anthony Taylor to his Spain summer home any time soon.
- 85′ – Another header is tapped over the net by the Magpies.
- 85′ – Arsenal pressing Eliot hard but nothing is coming off.
- 87′ – Ramsey receives a nice ball from Campbell but the Welshman smashes it into Eliot and it’s parried away.
- 90′ – Ramsey makes an unbelievable run off an Ozil pass, drills Coloccini into the ground and allows another to slide past. With just Eliot to beat, he sends it wide.
- 90’+1′ – Ramsey finds Ozil, who tries to hit the inside corner but it’s not on target.
- 90’+3′ – Beautiful passing in the box yet again turns to nothing for Arsenal. The frustration is everywhere.
FULL TIME. Arsenal win 1-0. The crucial thing is the points. It was a frustrating game due to the missed chances.
The first half was rather humdrum. Despite busting out of the gates, Arsenal was unable to get the ball in the net. Luckily, Newcastle looked no threat either.
The second half started the exact opposite, with Arsenal giving two crucial attempts to Newcastle, both of which were scuffed. One was stoned by Petr Cech, the other was skied by Mitrovic.
Finally, at long last, Koscielny was able to latch onto a bouncing ball in the box off an Ozil corner for a goal. Here’s how it looked:
About time. That would be it, however, as Arsenal frustratingly end the proceedings scoring just one goal. But it is the three points that matter and we achieved that.
