4. Lars Bender

Usually, the fact that a rumor reemerges does not mean a thing. Edinson Cavani rumors poke their head out every couple months or so. But Lars Bender’s reemergence has to be a good thing.

The Bayer Leverkusen captain is a true defensive midfielder. With very little offensive stats to brag about, the German puts up five tackles and four interceptions a game. Those are the kind of numbers that made Francis Coquelin start to draw praise.

By adding a long-term competitor for Coquelin’s spot, Arsenal gain so many things. It keeps Coquelin at the peak of his game. But even beyond that, it would cover us from situations like we have now, where we have to rely on Mathieu Flamini and potentially Calum Chambers to fill the void that Le Coq left.

But again, is Lars Bender really available? He is the captain of a Champions League caliber squad. He is 26 years old and playing in his homeland. Sounds like a recipe for happiness. No one ever said you can’t buy happiness though.

Moving onto number three, a rumor that has picked up surprising steam.
