Arsenal Loan Of Mathieu Debuchy Questionable Decision
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have had to cross the Mathieu Debuchy bridge for awhile now, but now that a loan is looming, is this the best option that Arsenal have in addressing the situation?
Arsenal have a good situation at fullback. Hector Bellerin is a fantastic talent. He is a star turned and looks to be at this Arsenal squad for the long haul. Nacho Monreal is a stud on the opposite side and Gibbs behind him has shown flashes of brilliance as well.

But then there is Mathieu Debuchy. Debuchy was acquired in the summer of 2014 to fill the void at right back. It looked a great signing because the quality of Debuchy was very well known. He had even taken the French national team’s starting right back role from the traitor, Bacary Sagna. That makes you a fan favorite right away.
What they forgot to tell Debuchy was that there is this curse that looms over Arsenal. Upon arrival, he was almost immediately stricken with this curse, as injuries kept him sidelined for the majority of the year. Thus begins the story of Hector Bellerin.

One man who is theretofore eliminated from the Bellerin story is Mathieu Debuchy, who fell into the background as the young Spaniard rose to prominence. Now, Debuchy cannot buy an appearance and he has lost his spot on the National squad as well. Didier Deschamps even told Debuchy that if he cannot find more game time, he will not be included in France’s Euro squad.
As such, rumors have emerged (out of the Daily Star) that Arsenal are looking to loan the Frenchman out. Unless this is a personal favor from Arsene Wenger to his countryman, the logic behind a temporary move is befuddling. What is going to change between now and when he returns from loan? Hector Bellerin is still going to be firmly rooted in the starting role and Carl Jenkinson and Stefan O’Connor will still be young and trying to get into the Arsenal squad.
Debuchy will only be older when he returns. He will lose value. If he cannot find game time now, why would he be able to later? Arsenal might as well sell him outright now rather than string him along.

Of course, they are all rumors and there is not necessarily in them, but all rumors start somewhere. A Debuchy loan would be nothing more than a personal favor. That’s nice and all, but football is still a business.
