Adrien Rabiot Being Nudged Toward Arsenal By PSG
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal still need long term midfield help and Adrien Rabiot fits the bill better than anyone. Luckily, PSG is helping that cause with a little nudge.
Adrien Rabiot is having a bit of a tough time at PSG since proving himself. He has succeeded in ticking off the president, coach, fans and probably team mates as well, leaving him in a bit of a pickle. By asking for a loan move, Rabiot ruffled the feathers of all his feathered friends that did not need ruffling. It is hard to crawl out of that hole and we have seen no indication that he is trying to.

But PSG may have decided to go ahead and let the feather-ruffler do his ruffling elsewhere. Marco Verratti, the chief roadblock to Rabiot’s success, has signed an extension at PSG through 2020, according his agent (via ESPNFC). That means that he will be stuck behind the glory of Verratti for another four years.
All of this, in spite Verratti’s agent up-selling a move to Bayern Munich, has to have Rabiot’s head in a tizzy. He wants to play now, as he has proven he can. Not when Thiago Motta or Marco Verratti give him space. Arsenal can offer him that opportunity.

Arsenal will be welcoming Mohamed Elneny into their family soon enough, but speaking long term, they still need more help. Santi Cazorla is going to return to Spain before long and between the three elder statesmen, Rosicky, Arteta and Flamini, Arsenal is facing a trio of exits. That will leave, for the long haul, Elneny, Coquelin and Ramsey. That needs improvement. Why wait when a solution is available right now?
Arsenal can offer Rabiot two crucial things. First of all, they can give him playing time now. Coquelin is hurt and Elneny is not a guarantee. He can be offered the chance to compete with the Arsenal midfield to earn his place. Secondly, they can offer him a future. While Arsenal has some promising young midfielders, Wenger has to know a good offer when it is staring him in the face.
Rabiot is currently disenchanted with PSG and the longer you give him to iron things out with the head honchos, the bigger the risk that they patch things up. In the grand scheme, Verratti’s contract may mean little to Rabiot’s future, but the timing of it could give Rabiot a bit of a subconscious noogie. Wenger has to swoop like his vulturous counterparts at United and (formerly) Chelsea and pluck this young man from his nest while his wings are itching to fly.
It takes a rare case to find a player who has regretted coming to Arsenal. Rabiot would have a fantastic opportunity to make a huge impact on the biggest stage in football. Look what they provided for Hector Bellerin, Aaron Ramsey and the like. These guys would not have been given a second look by most clubs out there.
