Arsenal face their toughest test of the new year with a trip to Anfield, where Liverpool will be waiting. Pain in the Arsenal dares to predict the score.

Liverpool and Arsenal drew 0-0 last time out, with Petr Cech preserving a point for the Gunners. However, that was a much different Arsenal team for a variety of reasons. While they were a healthier team, they were also a team lacking the form of what they are currently rocking.

With that in mind, Pain in the Arsenal’s staff has procured their best estimate for what the scoreline will be.

Brian: Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool

Every inch of my being wants to predict a tie for this game but I think Arsenal have too much talent compared to Liverpool to come away not victorious. Especially with Ozil well rested and the team clicking again. Arsenal will fight till the end in a very close game and find the winning goal in the final 15 minutes.

Liverpool’s rise back to relevancy thanks to one Jurgen Kloop should not be dealt with lightly and who ever thinks this game will be anything less than thrilling and close must be living in a cave.

Thomas: Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

Max: Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool

Tell me Gooners, how awesome does it feel to currently be top of the table at this point of the season? Arsenal has been playing with a magnanimous amount of pride and poise since their heroic Champions League comeback to book a spot in the Round of 16 for the 16th straight year (excluding that horrendous lull against Southampton right before Christmas).

More from Pain in the Arsenal

After a challenging but confident boosting win against Sunderland in the third round of the FA Cup, the Gunners head into their away fixture against Liverpool with a colossal amount of momentum on their side. Getting underrated midfielder Tomas Rosicky back from injury should only add to that.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have been playing with anything but confidence since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp (and even before the sacking of Brendan Rodgers). After losing to West Ham United 2-0 in their last Premier League fixture, the Reds still headed into their third round tie against minnows Exeter City as heavy favorites. Instead, they narrowly avoided an embarrassing and crushing defeat when young Australian defender Brad Smith scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute.

Liverpool is a team that Arsenal always seem to play well against, even at Anfield. I do not see that being different in this matchup. Arsenal will have too much athleticism and power for the Reds.

Nevertheless, it will still be an exciting and must-see fixture to watch.

Andy: Arsenal 1-0 Liverpool

This is a tough game. Last time out at Emirates it was a boring 0-0 draw and I foresee a low scoring affair once again. Arsenal are in the better form and have the better players, though Jurgen Klopp’s pose plenty of problems.

Finn: Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool

While Liverpool have acquired center back Steven caulker on loan, they still have vulnerabilities in defense and are short of men in the middle of the park.

Jabari: Arsenal 3-0 Liverpoool

Mesut Ozil was pictured in training this week showing what seemed to be a “3-0” symbol  to the camera.  Perhaps in taking this out of context,   or maybe after being rested over the weekend for the  FA the Gunners’ creator in chief is feeling particular dangerous. This could possibly come back and bite me but I’m looking to the Gunners to make a statement on the road against a weakened Liverpool side.

Injuries have decimated Liverpool’s side. They will be without so many key players, particularly on defense, that Arsenal’s attack should find plenty of chances. However, with Giroud in a bit of a funk, it will have to be the most premium of opportunities to find the net. And Arsenal will notch two of those. Look for one tap-in finish from Giroud and another goal from a streaking Joel Campbell.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will not be able to crack Arsenal’s defense, just like last time out. They are missing just as many key offensive pieces as defensive pieces.
