Arsenal vs Liverpool Player Ratings

Arsenal was unable to hold onto the three points against Liverpool, but a draw isn’t the worst. Here are the player ratings including your man of the match.

It’s hard to diagnose if this game should be counted as two points dropped or one point gained for Arsenal. An away game at Anfield in the snow and rain is never going to be easy. That being said, Arsenal is top of the table and they only fell to a draw in the 90th minute. It could go either way.

Whatever the case, with Arsenal’s sloppiness and the poor defending, we have to at least smirk that we got a point out of the whole ordeal. Here are the player ratings.

7.3. Hard to do much more than he did. It took two perfect set-ups and a magnificent curler to beat him. His defense did not give him much of a chance as they were shaky all day.. GK. Arsenal FC. PETR CECH

While I hold the defense as a unit responsible for the sloppy play, Bellerin was pretty decent. Looked great again going forward. At times looked like a raw 20 year old prospect, at times he looked like a seasoned veteran.. RB. Arsenal FC. HECTOR BELLERIN. 7.4

6.7. Had some brilliant moments and some daft moments. Again, the defense as a unit is responsible for letting in three goals, particularly one late-on. However, it was Wenger’s questionable tactics that seemingly put Arsenal in an impossible situation. Still, a title-winning team sees that game through.. CB. Arsenal FC. PER MERTESACKER

6.8. Similar to Mertesacker. Had some moments of excellent defensive display and some of complete daftness. Defended better as the game went on but not enough to make up for how shaky this team was in the beginning of it all.. CB. Arsenal FC. LAURENT KOSCIELNY

7.9. What a showing by Monreal. He has become such an asset to Arsenal that he may be the most reliable defender on that back four. Looked impeccable going forward and was the only defender not to have any major blips in his performance. Long live Monreal.. LB. Arsenal FC. NACHO MONREAL

7.3. Another quietly effective game. His size is always going to hold him back but his effort makes him a pretty reliable midfielder. Does not have the same offensive presence, but that is a good thing. It means he understands his role.. MID. Arsenal FC. MATHIEU FLAMINI

7.8. A sneaky goal to level the game kickstarted another up-and-down game for Ramsey. It may just be a byproduct of his play that there is not necessarily a ‘consistent’ version of Aaron Ramsey. He bombards forward and finds brilliant positions but can be caught ahead of the ball. That’s just who he is. The pros definitely outweigh the cons, which is why Arsenal continue to use him.. MID. Arsenal FC. AARON RAMSEY

5.7. Drove me crazy. Walcott gives the ball away quicker than anyone. He may be moving around between new positions, but it is still a work in progress to see if he can be anything more than a recipient of through balls. He could have had an assist had Giroud not bumbled all over himself in front of the net, but it would not have rescued Walcott’s poor game. He also gave away the ball that led to a Liverpool goal. Poor, poor day.. MID. Arsenal FC. THEO WALCOTT

MID. Arsenal FC. MESUT OZIL. 6.9. Let’s all take a deep breath. While Ozil was pretty… well, bad on the day (<a href=

MID. Arsenal FC. JOEL CAMPBELL. 8.1. Would have gotten man of the match if he could have gone the full 90. Campbell has become something special at Arsenal. Not only is he surprisingly creative and full of intuitive attacking play, but his defense is to die for. He led Arsenal in tackles and was in the mass that was tied for second in interceptions. His eye for the pass and his eye for closing down opposing attacks makes him a serious candidate to stay in the starting XI once Alexis returns.

OLIVIER GIROUD. 8.4. MAN OF THE MATCH. What a game from Giroud. Exactly what Arsenal needed to see from him. He was much more controlled on the ball, displayed some excellent technique to evade defenders and both of his goals were a sight to see. His second shows such a degree of experience and understanding as well as tenacity. Hopefully this starts another dominant run from the big man.. ST. Arsenal FC

MID. Arsenal FC. ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN. 5.7. What’s he doing? The Ox gave the ball away twice on counter attacks. Twice he could have passed it but he kept it, was tackled and lost it. He may need to throw in the towel on the wings. Which isn’t good for him because there is no room anywhere else.

KIERAN GIBBS. 7.1. Did his job. That is more than a lot of people can say they did today.. LB. Arsenal FC

Why Arteta came on instead of Chambers just goes to show that Wenger has a completely wrong view of what Arteta is. He is not a defensive player. Not at all. Chambers is. But for some reason, Arteta got the choice. That being said, he didn’t exactly make any glaring mistakes. Could have done more.. MID. Arsenal FC. MIKEL ARTETA. 6.9
