Arsenal have had a crucial term of their Mesut Ozil deal leaked and it is causing quite the stir. However, all things considered, it means nothing.

This bit of news has been the prime example of how the media can use titles to warp news. All of the headlines out there claiming that “Mesut Ozil has buy-back clause” are just trying to induce fear. They want readers to look at the headline, soil themselves, and go on social media ranting about how Arsenal are going to lose Mesut Ozil because of his buy-back clause.

Despicable.

All the buy-back clause states is that Real Madrid will be notified first if Arsenal ever seek to sell Mesut Ozil. So essentially, unless Arsenal look to sell Ozil, there is nothing to worry about. And even if they do look to sell him, what does it matter where he goes? Well, unless he goes elsewhere in England. Which he won’t. Because he won’t be sold.

If Arsenal look to sell him, Real Madrid have 48 hours to decide if they want him back. If not, then should a rival Spanish club sign Ozil for more than €50m (£38m), Real would be entitled to 33 per cent of the profit (via SkySports). I call that the anti-Barcelona clause.

All of these contract leaks are causing quite a stir around the world of football. An apparently reliable source (Football Leaks) has been dropping contract deals for the past couple weeks and agents are none too happy about it. When Gareth Bale’s agent found his client’s contract leaked, he was less than pleased. He referred to Football Leaks as a cyberattacking organization. Police in Portugal have referred to them as an international criminal organization (via the Mail).

Football Leaks have also put an exact amount on the massive Anthony Martial deal. That was more-so entertaining than anything else.

Don’t panic about this Mesut Ozil thing. He and Alexis Sanchez are world class and as such, rumors are always going to be linking them away from the Emirates. It is a byproduct of having class talents. These two have done nothing to indicate that they want to leave. If anything, they have reinforced that they are not going anywhere.

Ozil has become a crucial piece of this Arsenal club and their surrounding culture. He has quickly risen to the status of fan favorite and he is incredibly passionate about his North London home.

So long as Arsene Wenger is in charge, or any protege of Wenger, for that matter, Ozil is not at risk of being sold. Not to Real Madrid and not to anyone else in the world. Bayern Munich were fended off and that being the case, two elite teams are out of the way. Plus, with the clause essentially preventing sale to another Spanish team, we can eliminate Barcelona as well.

If Munich, Madrid and Barca cannot land Mesut Ozil, then who would? Another EPL rival? I do not think that Ozil would ever allow that to happen, let alone Arsene Wenger. We do not sell giant names to other English teams anymore.

So who then? Italy? Ozil would probably dominate Italian football given the style of play but there is not any real super power in Italy. Napoli, Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan all have a rich history and alternate taking top of the league but none of them can claim to have a monopoly on the ‘favorites’ category. Plus, in terms of football-world spectrum, Italy is not as big as it used to be, though it is on the rise again.
