Arsenal Pursuit Of Alvaro Morata Reaching Circus Status
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have been linked to Alvaro Morata for ages but the rumor may be getting out of hand. Arsenal will never drop big money on a striker with Giroud around.
What is it with transfer rumors these days? Instead of finding new players when a rumor is dismissed, the rumor-mongers just jack the price up. How does that make sense? Aubameyang said ‘no way, no how’ when he was rumored to be at £60m. That rumor was then dismissed and replaced with with a new rumor. The only difference was that he was now said to cost £75m.

Unfortunately, the same is now happening with a favorite target of mine, Alvaro Morata. Ever since Morata was on the outs at Real Madrid, he looked to be a perfect for the Arsenal. He had the size and build of a Premier League striker as well as the technical ability to go with it. He was/still is young and he was/still is having trouble finding playing time.
At Real Madrid, he was stuck behind Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema. Now at Juventus he is behind Mario Mandzukic and Paolo Dybala. He should be ahead of Dybala at Juventus but he has been unable to gain any traction in the starting role.

He opted for Juventus when he left Real Madrid. It would make sense if he opted for Arsenal after Juventus. That is, it would have made sense before the rumored cost emerged.
In the span of just a couple weeks, Morata’s price has gone from a reasonable £30m to a bloated and ridiculous £61m. Yet somehow the rumors are reportedly the most likely they have ever been now that they have doubled.
How does that make sense? Arsene Wenger will never spend that much money on someone that won’t even replace Giroud. Mainly because he would never want to replace Giroud. Morata would be an understudy. No doubt he could grow into a fantastic striker, as he already is, but you don’t spend £61m on something like that. Leave that business to Manchester United.

If this is the state of the transfer market, then it makes total sense as to why Arsenal still have no one to challenge Olivier Giroud for the striker spot. The market for strikers is so inflated that unless you take a Louis van Gaal approach to money, then there is nothing that can be done.
The only hope is if Arsene Wenger actually was handed £70m and told to sign an exceptional player. However, the likelihood of that is right on par with the likelihood of Morata being worth £61m. He may have all the potential in the world but since moving to Serie A he has had a good season and a poor one. Not sure which part of that merits £61m.
Granted, it’s all speculation. They say that Arsenal have made an approach for Morata and that his release clause is apparently £61m. Liverpool are supposedly ready to offer £45m but that is all moot if Juve don’t want to sell.

Color me unimpressed by this rumor. He would be an exciting purchase and one that could make a splash at Arsenal for years to come but that price makes zero sense. This has all entered the circus stage of a transfer rumor.
