Arsenal are back in third place and this needs to be fixed. Here are the starters that can enact revenge on Southampton and restore Arsenal some points.

After another nervy win, this time against Burnley in the FA Cup, Arsenal will be doing the quick turnaround to face Southampton midweek. And yes, this is the same Southampton that romped Arsenal 4-0. It is also the same Southampton that then went on to get blanked by Norwich 1-0. We’ll call it a wash.

Arsenal has gotten a lot healthier since last these teams met. Francis Coquelin and Alexis Sanchez are both back in the starting XI and the more time they have to get settled in, the better. These two work just like new signings. The fact that Arsenal needed nothing but Elneny is a good indication of what status this club is in.

However, if they needed anything, it was a new striker, which is what Southampton landed. Charlies Austin has played just 11 minutes for the Saints since being bought but in those 11 minutes he sank Manchester United. I had always enjoyed the idea of Austin playing for Arsenal, but alas, it was not to be. Now we just have to hope he doesn’t put on a show at the Emirates in another kit.

Very little news elsewhere. Revenge is a powerful thing so look for Arsenal to flip the switch and batter the Saints as reparations for that they did at St. Mary’s. The only question that remains is where Arsenal will fit new boy Elneny.

Here is what the starting XI should look like when the evening game rolls around.
