Arsenal let three strikers slip past in the January transfer window, but the summer may be different, as availability already looks to be improving.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Maybe in the past day. Arsenal still need a striker and in the summer, there is someone they may sign. Sound familiar? Good.

Arsenal ran out of ideas against Southampton. They just couldn’t beat Fraser Forster and with the lack of options they had off the bench, all the club could do was beat their head on the brick wall, hoping to find a weak spot. But there was not one to be found.

We have to wonder what would have happened if Charlie Austin, Alexandre Pato or Aleksandr Kokorin could have come off the bench to give that stout Saint’s defense something to think about. But again, Arsenal does not have that option.

Maybe I am still barking up the wrong tree, but how can Wenger look at this squad and the results they produce and not think that Arsenal need a secondary striker? Wenger admitted that availability was again a problem in the January window, yet those three strikers I listed were cheap and while at least two of them were risky, it still would have been an option.

But Arsenal need the perfect signing in order to pull the trigger.

Yesterday, I covered how Mauro Icardi could be the perfect option for the Gunners in the summer, but there may be yet another fantastic option becoming available: the Mexican wonder, Javier Hernandez.

Hernandez was sent away from Manchester United like a leper and has since been cleansed, healed and restored to glory in the Bundesliga. However, Hernandez is keen to get back to the Premier League and while he has always loved United, he may find that the Danny Welbeck approach could be more beneficial – that is, coming to Arsenal and sinking the team that shirked him.

Bayer Leverkusen resolutely held onto Hernandez in January, but they conceded that it may be out of their control to hold onto him past the summer.

More from Arsenal Transfer Rumours

“‘We have to make the most of the Chicharito effect as much as possible,” Leverkusen director Jochen A. Rotthaus said, via the Metro. It’s as if he is accepting that they better do a lot with him this year because that is all they have. He went on: “But at the same time, we must prepare ourselves for a time without Chicharito. We must bring other stars to the fore. We cannot get lost in Chicharito mania.”

Translation? We can’t keep him, so let’s enjoy him while we can.

Javier Hernandez does one thing incredibly well. He scores goals. This season he has scored 21 goals in 19 appearances across all club competitions. He makes it look so simple.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have to turn to Welbeck and Walcott if Giroud can’t put it in the net. If there is one thing they cannot do, it is make it look simple.

Next: Giroud is not to blame

Javier Hernandez has been linked to Arsenal for awhile, but it all comes down to whether or not Wenger sees the striker situation as a problem. All we can do is hope.
