Arsenal finally ended Serge Gnabry’s awful loan spell with West Brom and now they are looking for another. Should they be so hasty in the process, though?
Serge Gnabry was sent on possibly the worst loan in the history of the game. West Brom gave the Arsenal winger a mere 12 minutes of game time before confining him to the reserves, where he rotted away and was never heard from again. He even nabbed an assist in three appearances for their U21 side, but it was never going to be good enough. Wenger finally pulled the plug on the deal this January, but now he is preparing an immediate departure for Gnabry.

I am here to opine that that might not be the best idea. Consider the opportunity here for Serge Gnabry. He has just been through probably one of the more frustrating stints of his life and now he is back with his home club.
Conveniently for him, his home club is finding it hard to find any sort of consistency on the wings. Alexis is set in stone but Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been somewhere between awful and inconsistent. Joel Campbell has been good up until the Southampton match and Alex Iwobi is making a decent amount of cameos.

Serge Gnabry, should he be allowed to stay with the Arsenal first team, should take precedence over Iwobi. Gnabry is one of Arsenal’s top talents. Just because he suffered a year long injury and was then shipped off to Tony Pulis’ basement does not take away from who he is as a player.
This is a kid that broke through to Arsenal’s senior squad at the age of 18 and scored a goal. That does not happen with just anyone. He made 18 appearances for Arsenal, adding two assists to that goal. Not only that, but in 32 career appearances with Arsenal’s U21 side, he netted ten times and added eight assists.
And we have more to add. He has scored 11 international goals in 26 appearances across the German U16-U21 sides. This guy has a track record that begs for first team consideration. Mainly because he has proven be first team material before.
With changes needed and new, creative ideas needed from the bench, Gnabry may find himself with a premium opportunity if Wenger allows it. Against Southampton, Arsenal looked starved for options and with the FA Cup, the Premier League and the Champions League all colliding in the same time frame, it only makes sense that more options will be needed.

What makes Gnabry special is that he can play either wing as well as the No. 10 role. Plus, he has more experience than Iwobi and has shown more promise as well. Not to mention he is a year his senior.
Not only that, but giving Gnabry a shot with the Arsenal first team after such a disastrous and confidence-breaking loan spell would work wonders. It could essentially rejuvenate the lads self-belief in one fell swoop.
It would be a bit whimsical to think that Gnabry could just stick in the first team just like that. But it’s not impossible. All I am suggesting is that Gnabry is given a chance against Hull City in the FA Cup. Even as a sub, give the kid a chance and see what happens.
