Arsenal can use a bit of cheering up and sometimes it is the small things that count. Small things like Sol Campbell discrediting Tottenham’s title chances.

It’s been a terrible 2016 in Gunner town. Something about turning over into the New Year just never sits well. Last year Arsenal was romped by Southampton on New Years day. This year we’ve gone a month into the season, dropped three places, and been outscored by Wayne Rooney alone. It’s a rough life.

To make matters even more rough, Arsenal currently sit behind North London Rival Tottenham on a goal differential that would require a massive stomping against Bournemouth to overcome.

Like I said it’s a rough life.

Not only that, but we have Olivier Giroud coming out and saying Arsenal should not be ashamed to lose to Barcelona and we have Aaron Ramsey’s lukewarm response to drawing against Southampton. It feels like the players are succumbing to the doldrums the team is in.

In times like these, anything can be a bit of a lift. Maybe a Jack Wilshere “Tottenham are sh*t” rant could be enough to lift the spirits. Unfortunately, Wilshere is a bit down on his luck as well and finding it hard to stay positive.

That’s okay though, because Sol Campbell has given us a subtle gem.

“[Tottenham] don’t have a lot of winners in their team,” Campbell said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

That should be enough to deliver a smile. But it will bring about even more of a smile when considering, yet again, what Sol Campbell did for Arsenal. After making 200 appearances for Tottenham, the defenseman moved on a free to Arsenal and became a key piece of their Invincible season and beyond.

He went on to make nearly 100 less appearances for Arsenal than he did for his first club, but the impact he made at Arsenal was so much bigger than his impact at Spurs.

Naturally, there has been a bit of a backlash against Campbell for his statements, particularly from former Spuds manager Tim Sherwood. Sherwood holds to that the Spurs can win the title, despite their lack of players who have a proven winning mentality.

Arsenal, on the other hand, do have winners. Lots of them. This squad won the past two FA Cups. Even aside from that, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech all have considerable experience winning things. Not to mention Per Mertesacker.

Hopefully Campbell’s comments will be vindicated and the Spurs will tank, preferably at the hands of Arsenal. That doesn’t sound too biased does it?
