Arsenal’s Link To Daniel Sturridge Is Terrifying
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are supposedly front runners to land the services of Liverpool hospital patient Daniel Sturridge. This is a terrifying prospect for numerous reasons.
Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp are buddies. It seems like just a matter of time before the two do some sort of business in the transfer market. However, that does not mean that we need to rush things and make Daniel Sturridge the first piece of business.

A bit of a renegade rumor has popped up, claiming that Daniel Sturridge is furious with his injuries and the criticism he is receiving and looks ready to quit the club. This would not be that hard to fathom. Sometimes a fresh start is needed. Plus, with Liverpool apparently very keen on landing a first-rate striker, Sturridge may be out of options at Anfield.
The Daily Mail points out that Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley is a huge fan of the battered Englishman. It is even said that Arsenal are the favorites to land his services, should he opt to ditch his Merseyside home.

This is a terrifying prospect and I will tell you why, as soon as I can wrap my head around each individual piece of terror.
Okay, I think I’ve done it. The most obvious reason why this is terrifying is because of the injuries. Arsenal is already a magnet for injuries and between Abou Diaby, Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere, we have seen plenty of potentially world-class talent disappear due to extended layoffs and an inability to stay healthy. Adding another would just be iced frustration added to the frustration cake.
But the real reason this rumor is terrifying is because of this scenario I have concocted in my head as to what Arsene Wenger may do with Sturridge.
There has been an outcry for another striker at Arsenal, but it never seemed likely that Wenger would buy one. At least not an out-and-out striker. Daniel Sturridge is so similar to Danny Welbeck, except that Sturridge has proven that he actually can be a striker. He also plays the wings, just like his countryman and doppelganger.
Wenger could very easily see Sturridge as a good depth signing, especially given his new-found English sentimentality. Not to mention his affinity for giving players a second chance at their career.

If Wenger were to sign Sturridge and he got hurt, Arsenal would be in even deeper shitake than they are in now. Wenger keeps pointing to Welbeck as the reason he will not sign a striker. He says he would rather wait for the return of his not-yet-proven Englishman instead of solidifying the team with another proven striker for the title run.
What happens when, if Sturridge joins and Welbeck never pans out, we find ourselves in a similar situation. Anytime Giroud has an off game and it is clear that another option would sure be nice, Wenger can point to Sturridge and say he’d rather wait for him to get healthy. Then he can point to Walcott and Welbeck too and say look, I have strikers, I would just never use them as strikers because they cannot strike.
Sturridge is a fountain of talent, just like Jack Wilshere. However, his injuries seem like a Wenger excuse waiting to happen. We do not need someone else that will hold Arsenal back from a signing they actually need. The likelihood that Wenger signs a true striker is already slim to none, but throw in Sturridge and the likelihood will be exactly none. Wenger would see Sturridge as another ‘world class striker’ that takes Arsenal’s tally to five.
This rumor is still in it’s infant stages and hopefully that is where it remains. Forever.
