Arsenal’s mass of loanees are picking up popularity at their temporary homes, but few of them actually appear tempted to ditch Arsenal come summer time.

Loaning always has one side affect that you never really think too much about. What if the loaned out player takes such a liking to his new home, and them to him, that he doesn’t even want to come back to the mothership that loaned him out? It is not the most likely of circumstances, but it has happened before.

With so many Arsenal prospects impressing all of a sudden, and with the summer rolling around, reports are coming in that managers who have received young Gunners on loan are now eyeing permanent moves.

It started with Isaac Hayden. With just one superb performance, Hayden sparked some statements from Steve Bruce that the Englishman is the kind of player Bruce wants for his Hull City side.

Of course, Hayden plays the ever-elusive defensive midfield role, so it would be an absolute travesty to see him pipped out from under our noses before he can be given a proper chance with Arsenal, where defensive midfielders are like demigods.

The next player that is drawing similar interest from his loan club is Jon Toral. The former Barcelona midfielder has been tearing it up over at Birmingham City and manager Gary Rowett is a fan. Rowett said, as quoted by IBT, “If Jon Toral became available and there was a £2.5m fee on him I think I would be trying to push the club to see if we could do that one as well. At the moment we are pushing hard within our limits and it’s very, very positive.”

More from Pain in the Arsenal

No offense, but back off Gary.

Arsenal have made this mistake before. They sold Benik Afobe, rather strangely (supposedly to make way for Yaya Sanogo) and now he has quadrupled in value and is back in the Premier League, scoring regularly for Bournemouth. No big deal. You can’t get them all right.

But that doesn’t mean that Arsenal should try again. I don’t like that Rowett thinks that it is “very, very positive” at the moment because Toral has an opening at Arsenal. That opening is called “help Arsenal forget about Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini”. With those two and Tomas Rosicky set to move on in the summer, there will be space for an infusion of youth in the midfield.

No one is more ready to take that role than Jon Toral. He has been exceptional with the Blues, scoring six goals and assisting on three from the No. 10 position. He has also played wide roles.

Luckily, Toral is well aware of what he wants with his career. “The truth is that I am confident and eager [to return]”, the Spaniard pointed out. “Wenger is always thinking about the future of the club,” he added.
