Arsenal: Aradiusz Milik Would Continue Evolution
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are pretty set in the way their team is constructed, so it would only make sense that such a way would continue. Arkadiusz Milik provides that.
Arsene Wenger has been steadily evolving Arsenal through recent years. With the additions of guys like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, he is adding more firepower to vital positions. However, it is possible that the complexity of the attack has left behind Olivier Giroud.

The big Frenchman still has his perks. His hold up play is superb, his flick-on ability sublime and his heading ability still tops the known world. But for a striker on a top class team, his pace and inability to navigate close spaces – in a league that doesn’t provide many open spaces – can be a hindrance.
That is why Danny Welbeck has fit into so well. He has good physicality and hold up play, two of Giroud’s strong suits, but also has better on the ball ability, such as pace and a work-in-progress dribbling ability. However, Welbeck’s finishing and his shot from distance are still not focal points.

Therefore, in order to stick with the progression of things, Arsenal should be looking for a strong striker with good pace, on the ball ability, dribbling skills and long shot. Enter Arkadiusz Milik.
I pegged Milik as a perfect solution at the beginning of the year, but it was not the most popular bit of speculation. Pain in the Arsenal’s Dutch football correspondent even poked a bit of fun at me for proposing such a move. But I still see Milik as a viable option and now, according to sources, Arsenal do to.
A lot of this increased speculation comes from his recent tear. In his past six starts, Milik has netted eight goals and added an assist for good measure. That takes his season totals up to 16 goals and seven assists.
The best part about those numbers is that, even despite his recent form, he does not go missing from the score card for months on end. He is consistent. And while the Netherlands is a different ballgame than England, Milik has that strength needed so as not to get pushed around in the box.

It is the evolution of the striker position at Arsenal. Slowly the team is making it’s way towards a true out-and-out striker that can do all the things necessary to be a mainstay on this team for years. Giroud and Welbeck provide two distinct options but neither one has exhibited everything needed wrapped into one bundle. Milik could very well provide that.
With the lack of strikers available and the potential that this young Pole possesses, it would be a mistake to watch him fall to another team and see him blossom. Wenger has every right to invest faith in Chuba Akpom and Donyell Malen, but there is no harm in options. As recent times can attest to, a lack of options can hurt.
