Arsenal’s decade-boy Theo Walcott looks to be on the out, with Manchester City looking to swoop. Would a move to the Citizens actually be preferred?

Theo Walcott is between three rocks and seven hard places at Arsenal. There looks to be no way to reestablish himself with the team as he has been forced down the pecking order lower than anyone has ever gone before. Yet Wenger continues to play him, most likely because of how much he is paying him and to give him a chance at making the Euro squad. But I digress.

Theo Walcott had about a month of positive showing, when he successfully benched Olivier Giroud, awakening the beast within the Frenchman that has been missing since 2016.

But since that time, Walcott has been, how to say this nicely, completely useless. There was one brilliant return against Manchester City, but that’s it.

Ironically enough, it now looks like Manchester City that want in on Walcott. Rumors are circulating that Pep Guardiola wants to bring the Arsenal man to the Citizens over the summer.

I never thought I would endorse an Arsenal man to move to City, given the track record, but this one has he thinking – who loses?

From an Arsenal perspective, we are cutting dead weight and potentially freeing up a space for someone else. Walcott is more of a liability than a useful weapon, so get him out of the team so Wenger can’t play him anymore.

Then, Joel Campbell and Serge Gnabry can swoop and capitalize on the vacancy. Both players have already, at some point in time, proven that they have what it takes. Gnabry continues to be inexplicably ignored and so does Campbell, who has give Wenger literally no reason not to choose him. Yet he never does. Both of these guys can be monumentally more useful to Arsenal than Walcott has been.

Of course, there is the whole ‘we’ll see him twice a year in another color’ thing. What I am about to say may sound blasphemous and heretical, but it’s a thought. Walcott has been with the club for a decade and one could argue that he is not going to get any better. There was a lot of potential in this guy, so where has it gone? I am not a big supporter of Pep Guardiola, but he has proven an ability to get the best out of players. Would it therefore be ludicrous to wish Walcott the best in uncovering his long lost talent with a new mind to guide him?

Obviously for two days out of the season we would be rooting against him hardcore. But for the rest of the days, I think that I would be at least a little pleased to see him amount to something. That may change when I actually see him in baby blue, but who knows.
