Arsenal: Bayern Munich Are Being Annoying Again
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are hot on the tracks of Granit Xhaka. But it looks like the evil German empire of Bayern Munich may be sneaking into the equation. And that’s never good.
There aren’t many transfers that are getting me quite as excited as the potential Granit Xhaka transfer. Maybe it’s just seeing how rambunctious he is in the middle of the pitch, maybe it’s the versatility. Who knows. He just seems like a perfect fit for Arsenal and someone that can make a difference for years to come.

But it was never going to be easy. Liverpool were said to be in on Xhaka too, but all the heavy links tied him to Arsenal. All of the personal terms and team talk was directed at North London, not a Klopp’s new toy.
That is, until Bayern Munich got involved.
The Sun is reporting, through some German source, that the German vultures are waiting until next year to enact a release clause in Xhaka’s contract, which matches up perfectly with the end of Xabi Alonso’s contract. There hasn’t been much believable talk drawing Xhaka away from Arsenal, but Bayern is always believable.
The Evil German empire recently filched another Dortmund player, as despicable as that is, and they nabbed Arturo Vidal last summer when Arsenal were heavily linked as well. Seeing yet another Arsenal target end up wearing those horrid German colors would be no great shock.
As it stands, the rumors transfer is at a stand off over some minuscule amount of poundage. £4m to be exact. Supposedly Arsenal have offered £30m but Borussia Monchengladbach want to see it raised to £34m. If that ends up being the deal breaker, than I will have lost all hope.
The good news here is that Xhaka said himself (and there is nothing more reliable than a players own words) that he wants to play in England. That it is his dream to play in England. That is something that Bayern cannot offer and at 23 years of age, another pit stop in a quest to achieve his dreams doesn’t make much sense. Not when there is already so much interest in getting him to England.
We knew that transfer sagas like this would take some twists and turns. It’s just unfortunate that that twist had to come from Bayern Munich and not someone harmless like Swansea City.
Arsenal still look to be in a really good position to land the Swiss midfielder and I would not be surprised to see Arsene Wenger be the key piece that brings him to the Emirates.
